Album Review: Lyriel – “Skin And Bones”

Band: Lyriel
Album: Skin And Bones
By: M. Loop

Lyriel is melodic metal of the highest caliber.

Powered by Tim Sonnenstuhl on guitar, Thomas Raser on bass and vocals and Markus Fidorra on drums, the core band lays down a very powerful backing over which tremendously talented vocalist Jessica Thierjung sings like a song bird. Her vocals are passionate and very pro caliber.

When you add the extra layer of Linda Laukamp on cello and vocals and Joon Laukamp on violin, Lyriel has a wide palette of sonic colors to work with. When Jessica and Linda sing together their harmonies are simply beautiful. Mr. Raser sings very well as well.

Every band member excels on their instrument. Kudos to the excellent arrangements and production.

The album keeps fluctuating back and forth between angelic string sections and killer metal outbursts. The songwriting is very accomplished with memorable choruses and simply lovely melodies throughout.

I imagine that Lyriel already has a large, loyal and dedicated fan base. They should. This is a very mature and accomplished work. Highly recommended.
