Album Review: Jailcat – “Men Or Mice”

Artist: Jailcat
Album: Men Or Mice
By: M.Loop

Clearly a band on the rise, Jailcat has signed with Steel Gallery Records and recorded their first full length album “Men Or Mice” with the assistance of Grammy-nominated producer Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Ozzy, Gary Moore etc) and Mastered by John Scrip at MASSIVE Mastering (Chicago, IL). Pro all the way.

The mix is spotless. Everything is where it should be in this pristine production.

Kelly Blake has the right stuff to front the band and work up a lather. Lead guitarist, Manny has the chops to bring every solo to life and a very cool retro fuzz tone.

The rhythm section of Fotis Tsaky on drums, Nick Grey on bass and George Katz on rhythm guitar absolutely lock in the labyrinth of rolling riffs that power the faster numbers. They keep it simple and uncluttered for the softer numbers showing a maturity and musicality too often lacking in the genre.

Standout track “Mice” has all that is great about this band. Aggression, strong and well produced vocals, creative arrangements with unexpected changes and intertwined guitar parts reminiscent of the best of Blue Oyster Cult.

It is only a matter of time before the word spreads and Jailcat becomes a force to be reckoned with.
